Each year, the Young Artists and Authors Showcase encourages youth from around the globe to express the mission of Sister Cities International through original artwork and literature. All students must submit their work based on a designated theme that is announced each year. Artwork is sent from member cities to Washington, D.C. where a panel of judges selects the winners based on originality, composition, and theme interpretation.
This year’s theme highlights the importance of citizen diplomacy and the innovative ways citizen diplomats achieve peace through people-to-people interaction. Students are encouraged to draw on inspiration from their experience with sister cities, travel, exchange, international friendships and the many ways people cultivate relationships across cultures.

The Chandler winning artwork will be sent to Sister Cities International in Washington, D.C. for judging with all entries submitted by other U.S. Sister Cities. Chandler-Tullamore Sister Cities’ top 3 winning artworks will be displayed on our website, www.chandlerirish.org. Also, the winning artwork will be published in the SanTanSun News.
International judging will take place in late May, and winners and finalists will be announced in early June. Winning pieces will be published on the Sister Cities International website, and will be displayed at the 2016 Annual Conference.
After the National Finalists for art and literature have been announced, they embark on a year-long tour hosted by local sister city programs on a monthly basis.
Underwriting for the 2018 Art and Author Showcase is made possible through a grant received from the Chandler Special Events Committee and the Chandler Cultural Foundation.
